In times of economic hardship worldwide, one of the ways of the poor to be financially independent is to bet on the government's lotteries or lotto. This is also true in the Philippines. Many Filipinos will surely skip a meal or a drink just to have the money to bet on Grand Lotto, Super Lotto 6/49, Megalotto 6/45 and 6/42 Lotto. This is their only chance to become millionaires. While many government officials rake in millions from the country's coffer with a lift of a finger or just a phone call, the poor has to choose between having an empty stomach and having the money to bet on lotto to have a chance of a lifetime. Of course, the Catholic Church disapproves all forms of gambling and yet they could not stop the habit of most Christians.
