2012 Star Awards for Movie Winners

The recognition of the best performers and behind the scenes professionals in the Philippine cinema  kicked off this year with the holding of the 28th Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Movies at the Meralco Theater in Pasig City on Wednesday, March 14, 2012.

Aga Muhlach

In this awards night, ER Ejercito got his wish by winning the movie actor of the year for his lead role in Manila Kingpin together with Aga Muhlach for In the Name of Love. 

ER must be in euphoria because the movie which was showed only at the end of the year during the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) also gathered most of the major awards. These awards are:

1) Movie of the Year

2) Movie Director of the Year - Darryl dela Cruz
3) Movie Supporting Actor of the Year  - Baron Geisler
4) Movie Cinematographer of the Year - Carlo Mendoza
5) Movie Editor of the Year - Jason Canapay & Ryan Orduna
6) Movie Production Designer of the Year - Fritz Silorio, Mona Soriano & Ronaldo Cadapan
7) Movie Musical Scorer of the Year - Jessie Lasaten
8) Movie Original Theme Song of the Year - Hari ng Tondo

Angel Locsin

On the other hand, aside winning the Movie Actor of the Year for Aga Muhlach, In the Name of Love also recognized Angel Locsin as Movie Actress of the Year. The movie also awarded the following:

Jake Cuenca

1) Movie Supporting Actor of the Year - Jake Cuenca 
2) Movie Original Screenplay of the Year - Olivia Santos & Enrico Santos
3) Movie Sound Engineer of the Year -  Albert Michael Idioma



Also recognized in the Star Awards for Movies are those films using digital media or what we commonly called Indie Films. Raking most of the awards for this category is the film Thelma which were awarded the following :

1) Digital Movie of the Year
2) Digital Movie Director of the Year - Paul Soriano
3) Digital Movie Cinematographer of the Year - Odyssey Flores
4) Digital Movie Screenplay of the Year - Froilan Medina & Paul Soriano


PMPC also gave praise to the talents of the following performers and movies:

1) Movie Supporting Actress of the Year - Lovi Poe (Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow)
2) Movie Child Performer of the Year - Jillian Ward (Aswang)

Solenn Heussaff

3) New Movie Actress of the Year -  Solenn Heussaff (Temptation Island)

Rocco Nacino

4) New Movie Actor of the Year - Rocco Nacino (Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Paa)

1) Editor of the Year - Ike Veneracion (Ang Babae sa Septic Tank)
2) Production Designer of the Year - Laida Lim (Nino)
3) Scorer of the Year - Vincent de Jesus (Ang Babae sa Septic Tank)
4) Sound Engineer of the Year - Ditoy Aguila (Patikul)
5) Original Theme Song of the Year - Ikaw ang Pag-ibig

Eddie Gutierrez

Meanwhile, Eddie Gutierrez was awarded the Ulirang Artista Lifetime Achievement Award while Director Marilou Diaz-Abaya was recognized as Ulirang Alagad ng Pelikula sa Likod ng Camera.

Unofficially Yours, John Lloyd Cruz & Angel Locsin

After their popular teleserye at ABS-CBN's Imortal, John Lloyd Cruz and Angel Locsin are once again in their other's arms in this romantic-comedy film entitled "Unofficially Yours". The Valentine offering is produced by Star Cinema and is directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina.

Robelyn Elimanco Bagiosa, dubbed as Maid of Honor ng Surigao,  is a smiling househelp from Surigao Del Norte. She is 25 years old and born on August 26, 1986. She spends her free time smiling.

Lyn prefers the color of blue, black and white. She eats anything except goat dishes. Kris TV, Happy Yipee Yehey and ASAP are her favorite tv shows. Her fave stars include Kim Chiu, Angel Locsin and Maja Salvador. She listens to the music of Zsa Zsa Padilla, Angeline Quinto and Journey.

Pinoy Creative Writers, Nasaan na Kayo?

It seems that Pinoy creative writers are rare this day especially those in the entertainment industry. I say this because of the remakes, adaptations, reruns and copycats of previous teleseryes, movies and komicks stories. Take for example Mars Ravelo's komicks superheroes like Darna of Angel Locsin, Dragonna of Shaina Magdayao and now Flash Bomba of Luis Manzano, to name a few. Naririyan pa rin ang Pieta ni Carlo Caparas na pinagbibidahan ni Ryan Agoncillo. Wala na bang malilikhang bagong Pinoy superhero maliban kay Kapitan Inggo?

Filpinos are also guilty of "tagalizing" famous foreign TV shows like Betty La Fea of Bea Alonzo and the much awaited Lovers in Paris starring Piolo Pascual, KC Concepcion and Zanjoe Marudo(?). Hindi na ba makapag-isip ang mga sinanay ni G. Ricky Lee sa kanyang mga workshop at seminar?

Another remakes are the teleserye Underage and the upcoming Kambal sa Uma previously starring Rio Locsin.

Speaking of game shows, hayun ay puro de-kahon na lang ang mga pinalalabas - pagkatapos ng Deal or No Deal ni Kris Aquino ay raratsada naman ang Bingo, na kahit tunog at popular sa mga Pinoy ay isa ring syndicated game show ng Endemol. Why not authentic Pinoy games? Wala kayong maisip kasi nga iba ang pinag-iisip natin!
