Top comedianne Ai-Ai Delas Alas of Tanging Ina Mo, Last Na 'To won Best Actress in the 59th Filipino Academy of Arts & Sciences (FAMAS) award held at the National Commission for Culture & Arts (NCCA) Auditorium in Intramuros, Manila on Saturday, December 10, 2011. Ai-Ai defeated Bea Alonzo (Miss You Like Crazy), Dawn Zulueta (Sigwa), Jennelyn Mercado (Rosario) and Miss Lorna Tolentino (Sa'yo Lamang).
Because of numerous scandals and controversies, the once well-respected awards giving body of the Philippine Cinema had lost its luster in recent years. This was also complicated with the fact that FAMAS was split into two groups claiming each one as the true FAMAS.
The FAMAS was usually presented during summer but nowadays, it was being held randomly. Anyway, the other winners are:
John Lloyd Cruz of Miss You Like Crazy - Best Actor
John Lloyd beat Bong Revilla and Vic Sotto of Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote, Coco martin of Noy and Tirso Cruz III of Sigwa.
Albert Martinez of Rosario - Best Director
Xyriel Manabat of Tanging Ina Mo - Best Child Actress
Tanging Ina Mo - Best Picture
Ang Tanging Ina Mo. Last Na 'To came triumphant against Dalaw, Miss You Like Crazy, Rosario, Sa'yo Lamang at Sigwa.
I do not know who won in the other categories because Google could not find them. This showed that Famas really lost its luster and it was not the talk of the tinsel world anymore. I also noted that most of the nominated movies were showed during the Metro Manila Film Festival held on December 25, 2010 until January 7, 2011. It means that very few Filipino films were that excellent for the last 11 months.
