A 6.9 magnitude earthquake devastated the central islands of the Visayas, Philippines today. February 6, 2012. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Philvocs), the area most hit was Negros Oriental where at least 10 persons died and a score were reported missing.
Damages was also noted in Negros Oriental, Panay and Cebu but the tremor and after-shocks were felt as far as Zamboanga, Cagayan de Oro and Agusan. An alert level 2 tsumani was also announced but later withdrawn.
Some parts of these islands remained without electricity.

Aupdate: Tuesday's report says that at least 740 aftershocks have been reported with a magnitude as high as 6.0. Deaths have risen to 43 and many persons have been missing.
