The alleged burning of the Holy Quran of the Islamic faith, weather intentional or a mistake, is the worst nightmare of the US contingency in the unstable Afghanistan. This resulted to numerous protest from across Afghanistan which led to 2 US soldiers killed and fear to NATO soldiers.
The burnt Holy Quran was discovered by Afghan labor inside the Bagram compound where US soldiers are accommodated. US President Barack Obama has already expressed apology to Afghan President Hamid Karzai but this gesture did not appease many Afghans.
Today, Friday, February 24, 2012, a new protest was staged in different parts of the country with 12 deaths were recorded. In the capital Kabul, hundred of protesters marched to the Presidential Palace holding the Taliban flag and chanting "Death to America!" and "Long live Islam!".
In neighboring Pakistan, hundreds of Pakistanis were also staging the same protest which began on February 22, 2012.
Desecration is the worst from of blasphemy. How to appease the Afghans and the Muslims in general is a grand challenge of the US before the grand departure of the NATO troops in 2014.
