Jeff Horn Wins Unanimously Versus Manny Pacquiao

Jeff "The Hornet" Horn of Australia gets the WBO Welterweight World Title Belt from Manny "PACMAN" Pacquiao of the Philippines. Horn wins unanimously with a 117-111, 115-113, & 115-113 card from the judges. Horn has now 17-0-1 bout history after this fight dubbed "Battle of Brisbane" today, 2 July 2017, at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia amidst 50,000 spectators.

In spite of the loss, Manny Pacquiao will pocket US$10 Million while Horn will get around US$ 500,000 - 1,000,000.

As an Australian immigrant from the Philippines, I have a mixed reaction watching the fight via OSN. On the one hand, I wish Manny wins. On the other hand, I hope Horn shall make it. I am wishing though that the fight will end up in a draw. With today's result, I am sad that Manny lost but happy that Horn won.

Although Horn won, many sportsmen and analysts remarked that the victory was bogus and that Pacquiao actually won the fight.

Australia Approves Carbon Tax

With a vote of 36 to 32, Australia's Senate approved the controversial "carbon tax" legislation. This is another "historic economic reform" victory to the Gilliard government.

500 high-emitting companies will pay a $23 a tonne carbon tax next July. About half of the revenue shall go to households in the form of tax cuts and increase in  pensions and family payments to compensate for higher electricity bills.

Mayroong samahang rehiyonal - Ilokano, Kapampangan, Bikolano, Cebuano, Bulakeno, atbp.

NOVAK, SHARAPOVA dominates 2008 Australian Open

(Photos from www.novak-djokovic.com and www.australianopen.com)

The opening Grand Slam of the Tennis World is OVER!

Novak Djokovic of Serbia slammed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6, to win the 2008 Australian Open single men's final on hard surface of Melbourne Park, Melbourne, Australia on Sunday, 27 January 2008.

Earlier on 25 January 2008, Maria Sharapova of Russia dunked Ana Ivanovic of Serbia, 7-5, 6-3 to capture the women's single championship.

HEATH LEDGER is DEAD

(Photo from www.bestof.provocateuse.com)
(Excerpts of the following article written by John Sullivan and Sewell Chan of New York Times on Tuesday, 22 January 2008)

“The actor Heath Ledger was found dead in a Manhattan apartment on Tuesday afternoon, the New York City police said.
The police said Mr. Ledger, 28, was discovered facedown in bed in an apartment at 421 Broome Street in SoHo. Police officials said that a bottle of prescription sleeping pills were found on a nearby night table, but that they did not know whether they played a role in Mr. Ledger’s death.
Mr. Ledger, the star of “Brokeback Mountain” and other films, was discovered by a housekeeper and a masseuse, the police said. The housekeeper had been in the apartment for some time before Mr. Ledger’s body was discovered, and she let the masseuse in at the apartment for a 3:31 p.m. appointment with Mr. Ledger, the police said. They said they did not know when Mr. Ledger scheduled the appointment.”
